API Tennessee condemns Senator Blackburn’s harmful campaign rhetoric. As an Asian and Pacific Islander-serving nonprofit organization that is fighting for a Tennessee where our community belongs, we demand that Senator Blackburn pull her latest ad as it promotes narratives that are dangerous for Asian and Asian Americans.
The claim that China poses a threat to Tennesseans is baseless and rooted in racist “Yellow Peril” tropes. This ad is not an isolated incident; it is part of a larger Sinophobic narrative that sows division and has fueled a rise in anti-Asian hate in Tennessee and across the country. It threatens our rich, cultural fabric and completely ignores the historical, cultural, and economic contributions of Chinese Americans in the Volunteer State.
API Tennessee will continue to organize and fight for a Tennessee where our community feels like they belong. Our state deserves leaders that will do the same.
