October is Filipino American History Month!

Tennessee is home to over 30,000 Filipinos! This makes Filipinos the third largest Asian population in the state. Filipino immigration to the Volunteer State largely began in the 1970s when Filipino nurses moved here to helping to fill nursing shortages. Since then, many have come here while filling roles in healthcare and hospitality.

Here are some ways you can celebrate Filipino American History Month this year.

2. Support your local Filipino businesses! Like many API immigrants, Filipinos are twice as likely to start a small business.
